Suds 102: Like Mother, Like Daughter

Some of you may remember a post we had earlier this year in which we highlighted a funny moment of Keola's... Well, there comes a time in a person's life when it is necessary to humble oneself for the sake of another.

Funny thing happened last night... I loaded the dishwasher and added the dish soap, thinking that all was well, and walked away. We left for basketball and when Ana and I got home, she said, "Mom! It happened again!" I'm thinking, what happened? Much to my chagrin, we discovered suds all over the floor. In my haste to finish the dishes and get out the door, I used dish soap rather than dish detergent. They were right next to each other...it was an easy mistake to make!

Desiring to teach my daughters about good sportsmanship...I took some pics to document my mistake. Needless to say, after three rinse cycles and several wet towels, the dishes are clean and the soap is safely away from the detergent! What is that saying...Turn around is fair play? Seems quite appropriate right about now!

No longer a tween...

Wow, to think that thirteen years ago, yesterday, I was in the hospital anxiously awaiting our ke'Ola, "first breath of life". Oh how time has flown by! It amazes me that the sweet baby I held in my arms is now almost as tall as me and can hold me in her arms...almost! She still loves pretty things, singing, dancing, and laughing until her stomach hurts. Some things never change. The new desire for make-up, pretty hair, and boyfriends is new though! Well...at least the boy thing is new!

What a beautiful, smart, talented, spiritual girl she has grown up to be. She keeps me laughing, causes me worry, challenges me constantly, makes me cry with her singing, and astounds me with her wisdom. I am so blessed to have Keola in my life. I am so thankful that Keo was sent to us, to care for, and nurture. What an amazing blessing came into our lives thirteen years ago.

Thank you, ke'Ola, for choosing us! "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be!" Happy Birthday, sweetheart!

All hallows eve...

I've seen some cute pics of costumes from everyone and thought I'd share ours. I have to say, we had various costume parties throughout the week and I think the kids donned a new costume at every one! We ended up with a couple of rockers and it was actually pretty fun doing the hair and make-up. Of course, it's always fun doing hair or make-up on my girls!

18 Tackles, Pumpkin Patch, and Torture session...

So we went to Derek's football game and had so much fun sitting in the freezing stands...maybe that's why our girls are swimmers, we like saunas better than frozen benches! Anyway, Derek did an awesome job! After a brief scare in the first half, his team came back to beat Willapa Harbor by quite a bit and our awesome nephew broke his record by getting 18 tackles! Way to go...You rock! We'll sit on freezing benches any day for Derek!

Next stop...pumpkin patch! Well, fall is here and after much BEGGING from our youngest, we decided to make a trek to the pumpkin patch. It was a beautiful day out; the sun was shining, the kids were happy, and best of all...the corn maze was still there! Last year at this time, we had crazy wind storms and one of them blew down the corn maze...we were so excited to be able to make our annual trip through the corn, in the clay and mud! Our shoes were covered, but we had fun, and even played a game of pac-man in the middle. So here are a couple of pix and a flix of my family...check out their amazing technique with the pumpkins...I'm impressed!

Next stop...torture session... The Winn's invited us over for some really great Hawaiian food. Chris sure is becoming an expert at lau lau...I love it! After stuffing ourselves on lau lau, haupia, lomi lomi salmon, poi, rice, poki, and bread pudding, we had a really great laugh as KO "challenged" Auntie Chris...you decide who the winner was...

Seussical Revisited

Hey all...sorry for the radio silence you've been experiencing from my blog for awhile...we've been crazy busy, or just lazy, you decide! Awhile back I posted an entry about the girls' summer theatre program and promised that I would work on getting a video of it. Here it is...will it work? We'll see... Presenting Keola "Sour Kangaroo" and her stirring rendition of "Biggest Blame Fool". (You can see Ana dancing in the background, but you might need a microscope!) Enjoy!

At Last...

I'm so excited for my beautiful sister and my soon to be brother in law! Guess what Becca got for her birthday...a fabulous ring and a trip to Hawaii! Well, she has to wait until April for Hawaii, but she has the ring now! We are so excited to make things official; Howard felt like family the moment we met him! We love you both and we'll see you in Hawaii! (We'll see you before then, but doesn't it sound awesome to say, "I'll see you in Hawaii"?!)

Suds 101

Okay, so I know that I haven't blogged in awhile...as pointed out by my dear friend AND my darling sister. (Love you Am and Mai!) In my defense, for some insane reason, I switched back to my 35mm camera and I'm waiting on the prints. I know...Lame! I regret that decision, but our summer pics are on there, so it's going to take awhile for some new ones. So...here is a borrowed blog entry from my sister's blog! Enjoy and love to all!

A little lesson to be learned about the dishwasher. My sister asked Keola to finish up the dishes and start the diswasher. She asked Auntie where the soap was and she told her under the sink. She didn't think about it until Brady came up to her, "Um, Mommy? There is something spilling in the kitchen."

Maile immediately ran to the kitchen and saw her dishwasher spitting soap suds out. As the rest of us were overcome with laughter, Maile figured out what went wrong... She had some roommates in college who used dish soap, instead of diswashing detergent, and ended up with the same result...Haven't we all wondered what would happen if we used dish soap instead?

Poor K'O! The diswasher had to finish it's cycle, while K'O had to stand there and clean it up...with a little help from Lani! The suds kept coming and coming! We all felt bad for her, but now she knows the basics of suds 101! The bonus was the Maile had a nice, shiny floor when Keola was done!

Lesson learned, we had a great visit with Mai and her family! We love and miss you! Brady, we'll get on that Tag soon! Beeg Smooches to all!Aloha!

Seussical

The girls just finished participating in an amazing production of "Seussical the Musical". Keola had the part of the Sour Kangaroo and Analei was a Jungle Citizen. Wow, the kids did such a great job!

We have watched the past five productions of the 7th Street Kids, as K'O has participated, and have enjoyed all of them. However, we were truly blown away by the amazing cast of this one. The leads were so strong this year, and the kids were so prepared! What a great production! I cannot say enough about the quality of this production! It far surpassed any previous productions and exceeded even the local college productions, which are usually quite impressive. Watch out, Broadway, these kids are well on their way!

Strawberry Ice Cream

Okay, so Maile "inspired" me to take this quiz and it says I'm Strawberry ice cream. Incidentaly, I don't like strawberry especially the kind with big chunks...slimey and just not good for me! Mai says that it fits...apparently I'm sarcastic?? Huh!

Truth revealed...

So...those who know me well, know that not only do I LOVE everything outdoorsey and am quite the tomboy, I also have a "secret" (shhhh...don't tell!) LOVE of hairstyling. The girls have had a few recitals this past month and have given me the blessing of doing their hair. Ana tolerates it, Keola loves it. Actually, Keola loves it but is true to her toddler self, in that she can't stand if it takes to long! However, this is my true form of torture for both of them! Muahahaha!

We are about to embark on our summer filled with dancing, singing, kangaroos and jungle animals, swimming, and escaping to warm weather! It's the middle of June and 50 outside! It's a crime, I tell ya! Where is my summer weather? The only reason why I tolerate so much rain is because the summers get warm and mild here...still waiting for that to happen! Darn this global warming!

Okay, off to do something... Love to all!

Hello Cyberworld!

So here I am, in the middle of this new world of blogging, facebook, and whatever else the internet has to offer! I blame my sister! Please be patient as I navigate this new realm and figure things out. I feel like I've entered "Tron" or something! (Anyone remember that movie?)

The family is great. Robert and I just celebrated our 14th anniversary! I can't believe how time flies by! It's just amazing!

The girls just auditioned for our summer youth theatre program, 7th Street Kids, and both got in this year! They are doing Seussical, the Musical and Keola will be the Sour Kangaroo, while Analei will be in the jungle chorus. We are so excited!

See you in cyberspace!
